KEYNOTE INVITED SPEAKERS
National Institute of Plant Genome Research, JNU Campus, India
Subhra Chakraborty, received Ph. D from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), India. After a brief career as Research Scientist at the Centre for Plant Molecular Biology, JNU, she joined National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR) in 1998 as one of the founding faculty. Later she did Visiting Scientist work at Yale University, USA. She is currently Scientist & Professor at NIPGR. Dr. Chakraborty, a plant molecular biologist and biotechnologist got interested in protein science and became instrumental in initiating and establishing Plant Proteomics and Translational Genomics research in India. The main theme of her research is to elucidate the molecular mechanism, transcriptional regulatory network, protein networks & proteomic pathways, and metabolic fingerprints involved in nutrient improvement and host-pathogen interactions. Dr. Chakraborty’s laboratory has made conceptually important and widely cited contributions in the area of nutritional genomics and plant immunity using proteomics and system biology to decipher the translational remodeling and protein network involved in multi-host resistance and nutrient signaling. In parallel to the research on the basic understanding of these biological processes, she is equally contributing in translational research through identification of several novel proteins and manipulating them for production of value added crops with direct implications in plant and human health. The targeted research in this direction has been vital to food and nutritional security. She has several publications in internationally reputed journals and international patents. She has been serving as an editorial board member and reviewer to a number of National and International journals. The work has been recognized in the form of many awards. She is a Fellow of three National Science Academies in India, Indian Academy of Science (IAS), National Academy of Sciences (NASI) and National Agricultural Academy of Sciences (NAAS). As one of the Advisory Committee member, she helped in the establishment of Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India sponsored Inter-institutional Proteomics facility at NIPGR. Currently, she serves as Scientist-in-Charge of the said facility. Dr. Chakraborty is actively serving the proteomics community as Vice President, Proteomics Society, India (PSI); Council Member & Country Representative, Asia Oceania Agricultural Proteomics Organization (AOAPO); Elected Council Member, Human Proteome Organization (HUPO); Member, International Plant Proteomics Organization (INPPO); Member, American Chemical Society; Life Member, Society of Biological Chemist, India. She has mentored more than fifty Ph.D, post-doctoral, and research students.
