Chairman & Director, Institute for Ophthalmic Research Department for Ophthalmology
Head, Medical Bioanalytics University of Tübingen, Germany
With a major personal motivation to translate proteomics towards clinical translation, Marius Ueffing has developed and designed research strategies to combine bioanalytic, proteomic, functional genomics and computational research towards investigation of disease mechanisms and markers. Combining functional proteomic and affinity proteomic based approaches with structural biology, human genetics and computation he and his coworkers contributed to discovery and stratification of disease mechanisms as well as the development of therapeutic strategies to treat diseases on the basis of molecular constraints. Marius Ueffing has a previous background as group leader in pharmaceutical industry (Goedeke-Parke-Davis), University Medical Centre (LMU-München) and the Federal Research Center, Helmholtz Zentrum München, where he directed the Unit for Protein Science from 2005 to 2015. He currently acts as Chairman and Director of the Institute of Ophthalmic Research, University Medical Center Tübingen (www.eye.uni-tuebingen.de) and Director of the Medical Bioanalytics Core of the University Medical Center Tübingen. He has served HUPO as Member of the HUPO Board of Directors from 2008 to 2015. He has been a co-founder of the HUPO Eyeome initiative, a member of the HUPO Antibody Initiative and a Member of the HUPO Human Brain project. Ueffing has been President of the German Society for Proteome Research from 2009-2011.
