New York University
Lara K. Mahal is a Professor of Chemistry at New York University. An expert in glycomics and systems-based approaches to understand glycan regulation and function, she developed lectin microarray technology. This technology provides a high-throughput method for glycomics that is now widely applied to understand systems from clinical cancer research to host-pathogen interactions. For her work she has received numerous awards including the 2017 Horace Isbell Award for Carbohydrate Chemistry from the American Chemical Society, the 2008 NIH Director’s New Innovator Award, a Sloan Foundation Fellowship, an NSF CAREER Award and a Beckman Fellowship. Professor Mahal obtained her B. A. in Chemistry from the University of California at Santa Cruz with Highest Honors in 1995, her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley in 2000 and was a Jane Coffins Child Postdoctoral Fellow at Sloan Kettering Research Center.
