Kay Hooi Khoo

Kay-Hooi Khoo

Distinguished Research Fellow,
Institute of Biological Chemistry, Academia Sinica

Dr. Khoo received his B.S. (1989) and Ph.D. in Biochemistry (1992) from Imperial College, London, UK. He then stayed at Imperial College as a Postdoctoral Fellow for another year before moving to Colorado State University and worked there for 2 years. He started his independent research career at the Institute of Biological Chemistry, Academia Sinica, Taiwan in 1996, and recently served as its Associate Director (2012-2017) and Acting Director (2017-2019). He is currently an Editorial Board member of Glycobiology, Glycoconjugate J, and Molecular and Cellular Proteomics; council member of Taiwan Proteomics Society; co-founder and Steering Committee member of Taiwan GlycoForum, and oversees the running of GlycoNet@Academia Sinica.

Dr. Khoo's research interests are focused on the development and applications of concerted mass spectrometry-based analytical techniques for high sensitivity mapping and sequencing of complex glycans and intact glycopeptides. In particular, he has pioneered the sulfoglycomics of immune cells and established a high throughput nanoLC-MS2/MS3-based high precision glycotope-centric glycomics platform. In parallel, he is developing mass spectrometry-based methods enabling shotgun glycoproteomic applications and comprehensive site-specific membrane protein glycosylation analysis. He received the 2018 ASBMB/MCP Lectureship award for contribution to the emerging fields of glycomics and glycoproteomics.
